If you needed a reason to block off your calendar, this is it. Hennepin Arts just dropped the 2026–2027 Broadway on Hennepin season, and it’s an absolute monster lineup. Twelve Broadway shows. Fourteen weeks. Seven Minnesota premieres. Five returning fan favorites. And enough Tony Awards in the room to make your Playbill feel heavy.
As someone who lives for live theater and loves showing people the best things to do in Minnesota, I’m genuinely fired up for this season. This is the kind of lineup that turns casual theatergoers into full-blown Broadway addicts.
From brand-new, buzzworthy musicals to legendary classics and crowd favorites, Broadway is taking over downtown Minneapolis in a big way.
What Is Broadway on Hennepin?
The Broadway on Hennepin series is Hennepin Arts’ flagship Broadway subscription, hosted at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. The 2026–2027 season runs across 14 weeks and features:
- 12 Broadway touring productions
- 7 Minnesota premieres
- 5 returning hits by popular demand
- A combined 37 Tony Awards across the lineup
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned Broadway junkie, this season has something that will hit you right in the feels.
The Core 2026–2027 Broadway Season Lineup

Here’s the heart of the season. These shows are included in the seven- or eight-show subscription packages and represent the best of what Broadway is touring right now.
🎶 The Sound of Music | Oct. 20–25, 2026
The season opens with a brand-new North American tour of The Sound of Music, and honestly, this is the perfect way to kick things off. Timeless songs, sweeping romance, and a story that never gets old. Directed by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, this production brings fresh life to a classic while keeping everything you love intact.
❤️ Maybe Happy Ending | Nov. 17–22, 2026
Winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, this one is already being called one of the best new musicals in years. It’s tender, funny, emotional, and surprisingly deep. This is the show I expect people to be talking about long after it leaves Minneapolis.
🎺 Buena Vista Social Club™ | Dec. 29, 2026 – Jan. 3, 2027
Five-time Tony Award winner and one of the most electric shows on Broadway right now. This musical brings the Grammy-winning album to life with live music, dance, and soul that practically pours off the stage. Ring in the new year with this one and thank me later.
🕵️ Operation Mincemeat | Jan. 26–31, 2027
If you like fast-paced comedy, absurd true stories, and clever writing, Operation Mincemeat is going to be your jam. It’s hilarious, smart, and wildly entertaining, based on a real World War II espionage mission that sounds made up but absolutely isn’t.
🧥 The Outsiders | March 9–14, 2027
Winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical, this adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s iconic story hits hard. Brotherhood, identity, and the fight to belong come alive in a powerful way. This one’s going to resonate with a lot of people.
🎸 The Who’s Tommy | March 30 – April 4, 2027
A legendary rock opera returns in a bold, reimagined production. Big sound, big visuals, and songs that defined a generation. If you want spectacle, this delivers.
🔥 Hell’s Kitchen | July 13–18, 2027
Inspired by the life and music of Alicia Keys, Hell’s Kitchen closes the season with serious energy. It’s raw, vibrant, and packed with music you already know and love, plus new songs written specifically for the show. This one feels personal and powerful.
Hamilton Is Back in Minneapolis
Yes, Hamilton is returning. And not for a quick blink-and-you-miss-it run either.
From April 20 to May 16, 2027, the Tony, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning phenomenon takes over the Orpheum. If you’ve seen it, you know why it’s still selling out. If you haven’t, this is your moment.
Hamilton is included in the eight-show subscription package.
Optional Shows Returning by Popular Demand
These shows can be added to your subscription and are all proven crowd favorites.
- Mamma Mia! | Sept. 15–20, 2026
Pure joy. ABBA hits, a Greek island setting, and a story that leaves you smiling all the way home. - Clue | Oct. 9–11, 2026
Fast, funny, and packed with twists. If you like comedy and nostalgia, this is a blast. - Hadestown | Feb. 9–14, 2027
A haunting, beautiful musical that grabs you and doesn’t let go. One of my personal favorites. - Beetlejuice | June 25–27, 2027
Wildly funny, unexpectedly heartfelt, and visually insane. This show knows exactly what it is and leans all the way in.
