2 weeks ago, I was invited to see Hyprov while in New York City. The show, which has had a sold-out North American Tour, is based in New York in an off-broadway production until the end of October. Two masters at their craft, Asad Mecci- a world-renowned hypnotist, and Colin Mochrie- Improv legend and star of “Who’s Line is it Anyway? combine their talents for a show unlike you will ever see again!

20 members from the audience are selected at random to come up on stage (if they choose to participate) and are placed into a hypnotic state by Asad. From there, the group is put deeper into a hypnotic state, where the group is narrowed down to the top 5 people who are able to be put under the most to let their inner voice and inhibitions go.

Once the 5 are chosen, Colin Mochrie takes over and performs an Improv show utilizing not only himself but the other 5 random audience members. What is great about this show is the fact that you can literally see the show 5 times and it is a different show with different people each and every time! The one thing that stays constant throughout each and every show is the amount of laughter and fun that is had by the audience members witnessing comedy gold right in front of them.
Before I go any further, I want to say that I have seen a ton of hypnosis shows and I am sure you have as well… and this is not one of those shows! Most other shows are performed by a self-absorbed hypnotist whose job is to make fun of the people under his or her spell by making them do things they would regret later. Luckily, we have Asad Mecci as the hypnotist of this show who shows nothing but respect for not only his craft but each and every person on that stage. His job is to relax the participants and make them feel good while uplifting them.
After the show, I had the chance to talk to one of the participants about what he felt after it was all done. Where he had some remembrance of what he did, all he could say is that he felt mentally and physically better than he did in a long time which I applaud!

Asad and Colin are a great team that showcases the best of their craft while taking the audience on a rollercoaster of emotions! After their New York trip, they are in talks about taking the show back on the road throughout the United States, and possibly a Las Vegas residency! One thing is for sure, if you have the chance to see this show, GO! The time spent is well worth it! I know for sure if it comes by me ever again, I will definitely be back!
