When traveling, I love to seek out microbreweries and distilleries. Last weekend, I was in Manhattan, NY, and knew I had to check out Torch & Crown, the only brewery in the heart of New York City. The brewery, which was established in 2018 has not only a great brewery but a killer kitchen bringing you top-of-the-line food to go along with amazing beer.

The story of Torch & Crown is simple… two friends started home brewing at the age of 16, mastering their craft, bringing home awards, and opening a brewery in the heart of the greatest city in the world! Like I said before, I visit a ton of microbreweries and I can say that Torch & Crown has been one of my favorites for one reason…. they just made damn good beer!

For those who visit breweries a lot, you know that they can be hit or miss, to say the least. They have beers that can “set them apart” by adding weird flavors, a ton of hops, or making them undrinkable to the average person. When you go to a brewery, YOU WANT TO DRINK BEER! Thank God Torch & Crown did just that… they made beer and they made them DAMN GOOD!

I had a chance to taste a wide variety of beers from their Get Funky flight collection and did not find anything wrong with any of them! South Bound (a Mexican lager), Power Lunch (a DIPA), Whimsey (a killer fruited sour), and Escape (a killer play on a pina colada DIPA) were all super drinkable, refreshing, and had a ton of flavor and personality. I also had the chance to try a new beer, Off The Record which is a cold IPA that I PRAY can be sent to me in a keg (or 2) for my home kegerator!

Now the food… the executive chef at Torch & Crown does good food well. I wasn’t too hungry, so I just had their homemade chips with their signature spice bend and the lamb meatballs. I won’t spend a lot of time on the chips, because they were good with some great flavor, but I have to rave on the meatballs. The Lamb Meatballs came with marinated zucchini, toasted garlic, and a mint yogurt sauce! Those meatballs were so good, I am sure I will be dreaming about them for the next few weeks!

Next time you are in the City that doesn’t sleep, do me a favor and check out Torch & Crown! I don’t recommend many breweries but this one really hit it out of the park! The killer atmosphere, food that made me want more, and beer that I need to be sent to my house (please Torch & Crown) made this my favorite place in NYC! Just because this is the only brewery in Manhattan doesn’t mean squat…. this is the only brewery you need to visit in the city period!

Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you – it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart and on your body. You take something with you… Hopefully, you leave something good behind.
