Today, Nik Wallenda met with the members of the media to discuss details of his walk on the Orlando Eye. First off, Wallenda talked about the detail of the walk. Nik is going to to ride to the top of The Orlando Eye in a capsule and climb out at the top. Once on the outside Nik will give a cue to his head of safety (his father) and the wheel will start to turn. Nik will have to combat a small walking surface (6 inches) as well as obstacles that he will have to dodge and step over.
Secondly, he will not be able to hold a balancing pole in this walk. In every other public walk, Wallenda has used a balancing pole. He will be unable to do this due to the obstructions. Nik stated that he has been practicing for this stunt by walking a cable without a balance pole and making sure he is pushing his timing to be able to keep up with the rotation of The Orlando Eye.
Lastly, the weather may play a huge role in this stunt. Wednesday, the weather will be windy and rainy making for a difficult walk. Nik commented however that wind and rain has not stopped him before. One of his last stunts were acoss Niagra Falls where the conditions were so bad that he could barely see the wire. At the conference they did say that there was a possibility that Wallenda may have to reschedule for Thursday. From listening to Wallenda however, I am confident that he will be on the top of The Orlando Eye on Wednesday!!!
If something does go wrong The Orlando Eye will stop almost immediately. The Eye will only move 6 feet once the button to stop it is pressed. Safety teams will also be in place to reach Nik in case of emergency on this World Record attempt!! When asked about his fear of death, Nik stated that he is not afraid of death due to his faith in God.
Orlando Fun and Food will be there live on Wednesday to see Nik walk on the line. No doubt that his training and his faith will be his safety harness since nothing will be nothing holding him on the observation eye! Make sure you follow along for more!!
