Tonga Toast at the Walt Disney World Resort changes for 2nd time in 2 weeks.
Apparently, the world is falling apart! For those who have been living under a rock, the fans at Disney have been in an uproar over the changing of a Disney favorite at the Polynesian Village Resort. The beloved Tonga Toast at both Kona Cafe and Captain Cooks went thru some changes in the last 2 weeks, so of course I had to get to the bottom of why and try the new Tonga Toast!
Lets start at the beginning. About 3 weeks ago, the producer who made the bread for the Tonga Toast stopped making the bread for some unknown reason. In true Disney fashion, the show must go on so they found a part time replacement. The replacement bread which was sourdough like the original, was a total flop. The toast turned out dry, and tough to eat which sent Disney fans into an uproar.
Disney listened to the outcries and did a test of 3 or 4 different types of bread with cast members and came to what I had today. The “new” Tonga Toast is now made with an artisan French bread instead of the Sourdough as before.
I am happy to report that the concerns from before are now gone. I found the Tonga Toast to be crisp on the outside yet moist and flavorful on the inside. For those who saw pictures of the toast with little to no bananas, know that has also been changed.
Just to clear up some confusion before you start asking, this was not a review that was paid for by Disney and they had no idea I was coming. I know that sometimes these reviews can go differently then expected because they know I was coming, however this is not one of those cases!
For the lovers of the Tonga Toast, in my opinion, Tonga Toast Gate is now over, you can now resume your life as you did before. Our beloved breakfast is back!! I give Disney a hand for taking such fast action and listening to their customers!
