The Sound of Music on Broadway leaves audience with a smile on their face and a song in their heart!
The Sound of Music on Broadway just ended their tour here in Orlando at the Dr Phillips Center for Performing Arts. The show ran from January 5th- 10th, 2016 here in Orlando. I was at the opening night of the show and wanted to give you my feedback on what I thought of this timeless classic.
The story, which is set in Austria features Maria (Kerstin Anderson) who lives in a nun but misses her old life back on the mountain where she frequents often. After some trouble, Maria is sent to the home of the Von Trapps to help watch after the children while Captain Von Trapp (Ben Davis) is away. The children: Liesl (Paige Silvester), Friedrich (Jeremy Lanuti), Louisa (Maria Knasel), Kurt (Quinn Ericsson), Brigitta (Svea Elizabeth Johnson), Marta (Mackenzie Currie), and Gretl (Audrey Bennett) who have been raised in a military style manner learn not only how to sing, play, and be children but also how to love!
The musical showcases the timeless classic musical numbers such as A Few of My Favorite Things, The Sound of Music, and Goodnight but also have some new songs that have been added that were not in the classic movie. The set was stunning and the acting was top notch! In my opinion, the star of the show was the Mother Abbess who was played by Ashley Brown. Her singing captured the audience and demanded our hearts!
Overall, the musical was great! Running at 3 hours with a 20 minute intermission I did not lose attention at all. The combination of amazing acting, phenomenal music, and a great set made this timeless classic one of my new favorite musicals! To learn more about The Sound of Music, check out their website here!
