Experience what it’s like to swim with sea lions at SeaWorld San Antonio!
Swimming with Sea Lions is something that I thought I would never do. Living here in Orlando, Clyde and Seamore are one of my favorites to go see at SeaWorld. Their playful antics and puppy like qualities are amazing to witness in person. I had always dreamed of one day being able to interact and possibly swim with these amazing animals but that dream was a far shot… until I visited SeaWorld San Antonio! I wanted to share my experience with these amazing animals and a dream come true!
I will skip the boring part about the wetsuits, the safety talks and the bus ride to the stadium and will get right to the meat and bones of the interaction! We arrived at the stadium where Sea Lion High plays (same show in San Antonio and Orlando) and we were greeted by our animal trainers and hosts for the afternoon. After a brief introduction to the stadium, the show, and of course the sea lions we found ourselves on stage with one of the sea lions!
One at a time we helped train the sea lions by signaling him to do behaviors and rewarding him with some fish! We also had the chance to pose with the sea lions to get some amazing photos! All of the interactions and pictures lead up to the moment that I had been waiting for my entire life! It was time to actually swim with sea lions!
One at a time we held onto the tail flipper of one of the sea lions as we were pulled around the waterways in the stadium pool. I was worried that this may be uncomfortable to the sea lions however we were comforted in the fact that they were not hurt by this action at all! I love how the SeaWorld photography team was there the entire time to capture both pictures and video of this amazing experience!
Overall, I had a wonderful time fulfilling a childhood dream to not only interact but to swim with sea lions! To learn more about the swim and to book online, make sure to check out SeaWorld’s website here! To learn more about my swim with beluga whales in Texas, read my article here!
