A Historic Inn That Feels Like Home
When my wife, kids, and I pulled into St. Augustine for our recent trip, I knew we were in for something special. But the moment we stepped through the doors of the St. Francis Inn, I realized this wasn’t just a place to sleep — it was going to be the heart of our trip.

We were greeted with warm smiles, genuine conversation, and a sense of calm that you just can’t fake. That’s when Houdini, the inn’s famous resident outdoor cat, strolled over like he owned the place (spoiler: he absolutely does in my opinion). My daughters were instantly in love. Houdini became our unofficial tour guide for the girls, wandering from space to space outside with the confidence of a seasoned host!!!
Southern Charm Meets Family Comfort
The St. Francis Inn is dripping with Southern charm for sure! Think antique furnishings, creaky wood floors that tell stories, and cozy spaces where you instantly feel at ease. But the charm doesn’t come at the expense of comfort since every detail is designed to make you relax. For those who are into paranormal investigations, haunted buildings, and other spooky things, the St. Francis Inn has what you need! For those like me, who has a love for those things but also is cautious for his family, again the St. Francis inn was PERFECT!
We had the pleasure of staying in “The Cottage” which is a separate, private, 2-story cottage with everything you need. Think of it like an Air B and B with everything you love about it and nothing you hate! We loved the spa tub, the girls loved their 2 separate beds across the way from mom and dad, and if I could take that bed with me without getting caught, it would have been gone! Seriously, one of the most comfortable beds I have EVER slept on!

The rooms are as inviting as they are unique, with their personalities and a level of peace you rarely find in the middle of a busy tourist town. My wife and I loved the little moments — sipping coffee in the courtyard while the girls looked for anoles and Houdini, or just soaking in the quiet after a full day exploring the city.

The Food… Oh, the Food
For those who usually read my stuff know I’m not usually a “get up early for breakfast” kind of guy. But the St. Francis Inn changed that. Every morning, a spread of fresh, homemade goodness greeted us: eggs, pastries, fruit, and coffee that made me rethink every other meal I’ve had in a hotel. The menu also changes daily to keep it interesting, fun, and wishing you ate more of the sausage gravy and biscuits from the morning before!
And it doesn’t stop there. In the afternoons, the inn offers a complimentary happy hour that’s perfect for unwinding after exploring St. Augustine’s historic streets with free appetizers, beer, and wine from the local wineries. Later in the evening? Homemade desserts. Yes, you read that right. Dessert is not just encouraged here, it’s a tradition.
Little Things That Make a Big Difference
One of the best perks? Free downtown parking. If you’ve ever tried to park in St. Augustine, you know this is a big deal. Add to that the quiet courtyard for evening conversations, the library full of books for a rainy afternoon, and the genuine hospitality from the staff, and you start to realize this is more than just a bed and breakfast; it’s a community that you don’t want to leave.
Grateful for the Experience

As a travel journalist, I stay in a lot of places, but this one will stick with me for a long time. Not just because of the charming rooms, incredible food, and peaceful atmosphere, but because it gave my family something you can’t put a price on: time together without distraction.
To the team at St. Francis Inn, thank you for welcoming us like family and giving us a place where my daughters could giggle with Houdini, my wife could truly relax, and I could just take it all in. Patrick, I see now why everyone there speaks so highly of you and all you put into your place, our new home away from home in St. Augustine, Florida!
