Skeletons: Animals Unveiled Sneak Preview

As a paramedic, nothing fascinates me more than the human body and how it works. I like to take an inside look to see how things are put together and how they work. When I got a call to come preview the newest attraction to move into the new I Drive 360 complex, well of course I had to go check it out! Skeletons: Animals Unveiled is set to open here in Orlando on April 25th and will feature over 400 skeletons (give or take) of some of the largest, rarest, and downright coolest animals that can be found around the world!

Skeletons Toucan

The day I arrived there were skeletons everywhere, from Asian elephants, giraffes, killer whales, and even my favorite the 3 toed sloth! I had a chance to talk to Jay Villemarette Sr. who is known for his popular Museum of Osteology in Oklahoma City about this new museum and attraction and why he thought Orlando was the perfect spot!

Jay told me about the process of how they obtain the skeletons and then how they clean them into what you see in the attraction. First off, you should know that every skeleton that you see was a live animal at one point. The animals were all obtained after natural death at zoos and other parks around the world.

Skeletons Beetles

Once the animals arrive, a team of workers remove most of the meat and flesh from the skeleton. Then the real fun begins as most of the skeletons are picked clean by Flesh Eating beetles, also known as Dermestid Beetles. I was excited to hear that these beetles were going to make a home in an exhibit here at Skeletons! You will be able to see these amazing animals in action!
