The Orlando Eye reached a luminous construction milestone with the installation of the observation wheel’s special lighting. The Orlando Eye officially light up for the first time this week at a special event for employees, friends, media and family for Merlin Entertainments, the attraction operator.

Almost 64,000 LEDs were installed over a four-week process. The LED lights will use 92.7% less energy than traditional light bulbs. The Eye will offer a variety of lighting options to celebrate holidays and other special occasions.

A Make-A-Wish family has was chosen to have the honor of flipping the switch to power on more than 64,000 LED bulbs which illuminated the structure in bright white!

Orlando Fun and Food was excited to see the lighting! After a giant switch was thrown by the Make-A-Wish family, the wheel rotated and began to light up I Drive one section at a time!

No doubt that The Orlando Eye is going to be making a huge impact on not only I Drive, but also Orlando as a whole! In my opinion, I Drive 360 is the start of bringing locals back to I Drive and making this iconic street a destination again!
