Hey everyone! I wanted to go ahead and submit this from our new writer, Kevin Bowen!

Hi everyone, Kevin here from Orlando Fun and Food. This morning I attended the Grand Opening of The Sun Rail, our new commuter train. I was at the end of the line, for now, at the Sand Lake Station. The train did a whistle stop from DeBary to Sand Lake Road. Mayors from all the cities along the route came on the train as did Mayor Buddy Dyer.

There was a lot of excitement as this is a very historic moment for the Orlando area. People have been wanting this for years, and it is finally here. I thought I would be able to ride it today, but it doesn’t open to the public until tomorrow May 1st. The good news is that it will be FREE for the first two weeks so we can all give it a try.

There was also a big announcement made at this event. The next portion to be built will be the southern route to Poinciana. No time frame was mentioned as to when this would be started, or finished.
I really do hope it meets the needs of many people, and that it makes money. If it does, they will keep extending it, and maybe we can connect it to other rail services. For more information as to times of their service, their stations, and any other information please go to SunRail.com.
