Mummies of the World

Mummies of the World is now open in Orlando Florida!

Mummies of the World

The Mummies of the World Exhibition is now open at the Orlando Science Center in Orlando. We had the opportunity to check out this amazing exhibition on Thursday with other members of the press and I wanted to pass along some details about the exhibition and what I thought.

Mummies of the World is a traveling exhibition presented by American Exhibition that features 45 mummified humans and animals from around the world. Along with the mummies, there are also artifacts as well as tools used in both the mummification process. This exhibit also showcases items found around the mummies both in the graves and the tombs. The age of the mummies range from over 2000 years old to 20 years old!

Mummies of the World

American Exhibitions President Marcus Corwin stated that over 1.4 million people have seen this exhibition in 11 cities in the US since 2010. Mummies of the World was set to end in 2013, however the tour was extended until 2016 due to popularity and demand from both the science community and the general public.

Want to know if this is for your child? Dr. Heather Gill-Frerking states that every child is different. Some 4 year olds may find it intimidating while others press their faces against the glass in amazement. “You know your kids best” says Gill. If you have any questions about the exhibition or if your child may want to view it, you can always check out the Orlando Science Center’s guide to the Mummies of the World exhibition here.

For school groups or the homeschooled there are education guides to help teach the children. The exhibition helps teach children from what a mummy is, how they preserved the bodies, and so much more! To check out the educational guide for the Mummies of the World Exhibition look here!

Opening weekend numbers are projected to be around 4,000 to 5,000 people, which is average for this exhibition in the other cities it has been presented in.

Mummies of the World

I absolutely love the Mummies of the World exhibition! I love how this combines science, history, and medicine all together into one exhibition. Being in the medical field, I also loved seeing the medical procedures that were done to these mummies from CT, MRI’s and more! I also love that I had the chance to see Mumab who was mummified using the techniques and tools from the past at the University of Maryland just 20 years ago!

Mummies of the World will run from June 13th until the end of November! I highly suggest purchasing tickets in advance for this exhibition as tickets will sell out!
