For those who haven’t seen this movie, The Hundred Foot Journey is a remarkable movie that spans from the book which is titled the same. This story follows Hassan Kadam, played by Manish Dayal, as he struggles to find happiness in life, love, and the everyday struggle of being in a racist society. After the tragic death of his mother, who taught Hassan how to cook, the family ends up in a small French town. Once established in the town the family decides to open a restaurant just a mere hundred feet from a upscale French restaurant which is owned by Madame Mallory who is played by Helen Mirren. Hassan and his family deal with the daily struggle of being outcasts while trying to compete with an upscale restaurant across the street.
Hassan, through the gift of food, earns the respect and ultimately formal training from Mallory in the French Cuisine style. Hassan battles hate from others while learning proper technique under the direct watch from Mallory. After conquering the proper way to cook, he deals with the struggle of being a well-sought chef in a major city and dealing with the loneliness of being away from his family and the one he loves, Marguerite played by Charlotte Le Bon, who also works under Mallory. Hassan has to make a decision of fame and fortune in Paris, or the comfort of family, friends, and the one he loves.
I absolutely loved this movie and what it teaches those who watch it. I felt like the cast was destined to be together from the start and this shows in the movie! I also love how this movie seems to showcase how people can rise above adversity and hate to accomplish what they desire in life! We have all been through our own personal Hundred Food Journey and this movie hit home for me and my family! Oprah and Spielberg have created a cinematic masterpiece that will make you laugh, cry, and hope for more in your own personal life!
I highly recommend purchasing this movie today! The Hundred Foot Journey is for sale on DVD and Blu Ray today! The movie has also been released on iTunes as well as other electronic formats for different devices!
