After a long night out, I found myself locked up on a ship with 4 other people. Not sure how it happened but I am now the prisioner of the captain of a ship. I have no idea what I am going to do but, somehow, I know that my only hope is to escape the ship. And I only have the items and clues I find in my room. The kicker is that I only have one hour to complete my task or I will be stuck as a slave of the ship for the rest of my life!!
This is what I faced at Orlando’s newest attraction, Escapology! Escapology is located on International Drive below Seaworld Orlando. We recently had the chance to see what Escapology was all about and even got a sneak peek behind the scenes of how this attraction came together.
For those who do not know, Escapology is a real-life escape game. Groups of up to 5 players are locked in a themed game and players must work together to find hidden objects, uncover the clues and solve the puzzles to earn freedom! The largest obstacle in the way is that you must do it before your 60 minutes are gone. We arrived at the location of the game & were greeted with a beautiful lounge area with drinks and a great laid back atmosphere. There was a large TV on the wall with pictures and times of the teams from the day. Now I’m not going to lie, I knew I wanted to beat the time of the groups that day. After signing in and completing some forms we were met by our gamemaster who told us the rules. We were then escorted into a room to watch a video explaining our game, what we had to do and how to do it.
Before I knew it I was locked in a room and the fun began! A combo of puzzles, games, clues and hide-and-seek was before me. The clock ticked down from 60 minutes and the adrenaline started pumping! If we ran into any problems or had any questions about the game, our gamemaster was always nearby to help us out! We could have as many clues as needed but we didn’t want to ask too many because they display how many hints you needed as well! I am not going to go into any detail about the game itself because I don’t want to ruin it for you. I will tell you that we did escape! We made it out of the room with just 2 hints and a whole 59 seconds to go!!!
How did I like Escapology? Well that question is a hard one to answer. I have done these experiences in the past and normally do not like them at all. I feel like they are poorly put together and, perhap, a little cheesy. As for Escapology, I felt completely differently! I absolutely loved each and every minute that I was there! The puzzles were fun and well put together and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time (figuratively speeking). I also loved that the puzzles were well thought out and based on history. Both the missile crisis puzzle and my puzzle were based on something that real people went through which made it that much more exciting for me. I also got a huge satisfaction out of the fact that there were multiple rooms and puzzles within our own room and this gave me a sense that I was progressing with the escape.
I highly recommend Escapology to anyone who likes puzzles, wants to do something fun with a group, or has some free time while here in Orlando! To book a game, check current prices, and for more details about the games go to their website here!
