Disney’s The Little Mermaid swims into the Dr. Phillips Center for a toe-tapping great time!
Grab your ticket and go under the sea at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts with the cast of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. You may recall the movie, but this show breathes fresh air into a Disney classic. From the amazing set to the magnificent performers, this is a show you just cannot miss!
Disney films have always played an important part in my life. Growing up, Ariel was my favorite Disney princess, and I was always watching The Little Mermaid. In 2008, this movie was turned into a Broadway musical. I was ecstatic to hear that the touring show was making its way to Orlando, as I never got the chance to see it in New York.
This show follows a brave little mermaid who falls in love with a human, and the sacrifice she makes in order to be with him. She finds herself on land with the prince, but she must find a way to have him kiss her by the third day. Can she do it with the help of her friends? Or will she return to the sea with a broken heart?
Sing along with all the classic songs that you know, and fall in love with the new ones! Not only are there added songs written by Alan Menken, who composed the songs for the movie, but also some new scenes and characters to enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed all the new music and found myself dancing in my seat. I laughed and cried all the way until the end. You can see how much the cast loves this show, and it shows in how well they execute the performance. The sets were beautiful and made you feel as if you really were swimming beside Ariel. My favorite part was the wonderful costuming, that made it seem as if they were actually swimming underwater. The dancing was fabulous and “Under the Sea” made you want to get up and dance along with the performers. Whether you are young, or young at heart, this is a show that cannot be missed. You will find yourself falling in love and enjoying this story even more than before.
Be sure to catch performances of Disney’s the Little Mermaid at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts now until Sunday, March 12th. Also, make sure you swim by the merchandise booth for some cool collectibles and cute items inspired from the show. You may even find yourself a dinglehopper to add to your collection at home!
