CSI Orlando closes as series ended leaving the question why?
CSI the show ended its 15 year run just a little over a week ago. I attended a special event there watching some of the best past episodes, enjoying some food, and talking to fellow fans of the show. To my surprise when I drove past a few days ago, the signs are down, the lights are off and a piece of paper on the door saying that they are closed for good. The media received no information about the closing and apparently the workers were given less than a week notice that they were losing their jobs. The question in the back of my mind is why?
I have some speculation on this attraction and many more here in the Orlando area. First off, CSI was an amazing show that had a ton of potential for hands on attractions and exhibits. The problem with CSI Orlando was the fact that it was untouched for multiple years. The same 3 crime scenes, same testing, same autopsy, and yes same conclusions on each and every one for the duration of their run here in Orlando.
Da Vinci’s exhibit did not help CSI at all, but could be possibly the nail in the coffin for CSI Orlando. Before Da Vinci, other exhibits such as Our Body and Star Trek helped draw in customers who were there for the second attraction and also stayed for CSI. There was not much that Da Vinci brought in that could help CSI Orlando stay afloat. Da Vinci was more of a museum instead of a hands on exhibit and really had no appeal to those who came here on vacation.
So what does this tell us here in Orlando? Gone are the days that an attraction can set it and forget it. The mentality of some companies is that you can set something up and people will always come because their are always new people coming to Orlando. With social media platforms and review sites such as Yelp, these companies could be next to close the doors permanently.
