Orlando is not only the leader in family friendly entertainment, but it also seems to be a breeding ground for rare and cool experiences! Last year, when Walt Disney World announced that Downtown Disney would be re-imagined into the new and improved Disney Springs, we were promised new and exciting food and entertainment options! A few weeks ago, one of these combos opened at the new Disney Springs. The BOATHOUSE, which is an upscale steak and seafood restaurant, opened rare water tours on the lake in an amphicar.
What is an amphicar you ask? Amphicars were made in the early to mid 1960s and could both drive on land and in water as well! In the 9 years of production, only 3,878 of these amphicars were made and The BOATHOUSE has 9 of them in pristine conditions! These cars could go 70 miles per hour on land and up to 7 miles per hour in the water! The BOATHOUSE is the only place in the world where you can ride in a amphicar!
Tours run from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. weather permitting, and cost $125.00 for a 20 minute tour. This cost includes up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 small children! The tours start out beside The BOATHOUSE at a boat launch where you drive into the water and take a guided tour around Disney Springs with a talented and funny captain! Sorry guys, you are not able to drive an amphicar!
I was blessed enough to do a food review at The BOATHOUSE last week and I also got the chance to do a tour around Disney Springs! The tour, like I stated above last about 20 minutes and makes a full trip around Disney Springs. The tour is informative and fun and points out information about Disney Springs and the things that are located there. I love how you get a rare perspective of Disney Springs from the water that you wouldn’t see on the ferry. The captains were very funny and kept our attention with not only information but also with humor.
The star of this attraction is the entrance into the water where you splash in and the exit when you are rotated around on a wheel for the next departure. There is a photographer that takes your picture when getting into the car as well as you splashing down. The BOATHOUSE has also installed automatic photo stations that take when you cross a certain area in the water such as splash down! Make sure you bring your memory maker or magic band as these photos can be added to your Disney Experience!
I had a great time on this attraction! For some I understand that the price point may be high, however when you account that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, the fact that you cannot have this experience anywhere else and that price includes 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children then it is not bad at all! I do recommend this attraction for both those who love the water, and those who are looking for an amazing experience!
